Frequently Asked Questions

What is Orton-Gillingham, and why is it so effective for dyslexia?

The Orton-Gillingham approach is a direct, structured, and multi-sensory way to teach reading and spelling. Instead of relying on memorization or visual guessing, OG breaks language down into small, logical concepts.  By engaging seating, hearing and hands-on movement simultaneously, OG builds strong pathways in the brain.  It is considered the premier, evidence based approach for teaching students with dyslexia.

My child hasn't been formally diagnosed with dyslexia.  Can they still benefit from this tutoring?

Absolutely.  You don't need a formal medical or educational diagnosis to benefit from Structured Literacy.  If your child struggles to sound out words, misreads simple texts, guesses at words based on first letters, or finds spelling extremely frustrating, this structured, step-by-step approach will help fill in those foundational gaps.

How is this different from the reading help my children receives at school?

Many classroom reading intervention rely on general strategies of balanced literacy methods that do not explicitly  teach underlying mechanics other English orthography.  Special literacy intervention goes back to the building blocks of language in a 1-on-1 environment where instruction moves at your child's learning pace.

Where do tutoring sessions take place and what is the cost?

All sessions are held in my dedicated home classroom providing a quiet, comfortable environment equipped with learning materials so your child can focus without distraction.

I am located in Littleton (C470 and Bowles).

Investment: $65 per 1 hour session.  Every lesson included direct 1-on-1 instruction using evidence based reading approaches tailored specifically to your child's needs.
